Becatecarin is a potential drug candidate that has been shown to interact with the protein x-ray crystal structures, which may lead to an analog. Becatecarin has been shown to have anticancer activity in cell lines and animal models of renal cell cancer. It binds to mcl-1 protein, which is involved in the regulation of mitochondrial superoxide production and apoptosis. Becatecarin also targets kinases and interacts with ATP-binding cassette transporters, which are associated with autoimmune diseases and cancer tissue. This drug candidate has not undergone clinical studies in humans, but has demonstrated good efficacy in animal models of cancer.
