Beschreibung

Mepyramine is a drug that binds to acetylcholine receptors, which are located on the postsynaptic membrane of cholinergic neurons. It acts as an antagonist of these receptors and prevents the binding of acetylcholine. Mepyramine suppresses the release of neurotransmitters in the central and peripheral nervous system, and is used to treat inflammatory conditions, such as asthma, allergies, or skin disorders. Mepyramine has been shown to increase locomotor activity in wild-type mice and rats, but not in Sprague-Dawley rats. This may be due to its receptor agonism properties that allow it to bind selectively to certain receptors (e.g., muscarinic type 2 receptor) with high affinity without activating them. Mepyramine also has anti-cancer effects; it inhibits tumor growth by blocking nerve impulses that stimulate cancer cells.
