3-Phenylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine is a substance that inhibits the replication of viruses. It has a broad spectrum of activity against HIV, herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). The antiviral activity is due to its ability to inhibit viral DNA polymerases and RNA polymerases. 3-Phenylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine binds to the active site of these enzymes in a micromolar range. This compound also has factor-1 inhibitor activity, which can be used for the treatment of hepatitis C.
