Deoxycalyciphylline B is a quinolizidine alkaloid that has been used as a treatment for inflammatory bowel disease. This drug is also found in Chinese medicinal herbs and synthetic drugs. Deoxycalyciphylline B inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are important mediators of inflammation. The drug has also been shown to cause infiltration of white blood cells into inflamed tissues, thereby damaging tissue. Deoxycalyciphylline B is a hexacyclic compound with two unsaturated β-ketones at positions C-1 and C-2. These ketones can react with DNA to form adducts that inhibit transcription and replication.
