It has been shown to prevent the formation of enolates, which are intermediates in the synthesis of thienopyrimidinones. This compound also inhibits cancer cell growth and tumor development. 4-Ethoxythiophene-3-carboxylic acid is a potent inhibitor of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase, which may be responsible for its anti-inflammatory properties. This compound also enhances the cytotoxicity of other cancer drugs such as cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, and cisplatin.
