Beschreibung

Prifuroline is a fatty acid ester that has been used as an implantable, automaticity, and reconstituted pharmaceutical preparation. Prifuroline is a synthetic analog of the natural product pristanol, which has been found to have antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Prifuroline inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the cell membrane and forming a fatty alcohol-lipid complex, which prevents the synthesis of cellular membrane lipids. The lipid component of this complex also impedes bacterial protein synthesis by inhibiting ribosomes in the cytoplasm from attaching to messenger RNA. This drug has been shown to be effective against atrial fibrillation in humans as well as being used as a diagnostic agent for medical imaging techniques.
