Suavissimoside R1 is a novel compound from the class of fatty acids. The anti-depressive effects were observed in animal experiments, and it has been shown to inhibit the expression of MMP-13, which may be responsible for the progression of degenerative diseases, as well as influenza virus. Suavissimoside R1 also has antioxidant properties that may be due to its ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS). Suavissimoside R1 does not appear to have any significant toxic effects in animals. It can be used topically or orally for the treatment of skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, or taken internally for the relief of fatigue associated with depression. Suavissimoside R1 can be found in foods such as fructus and eclipta prostrata.
