Tyrosinase is an enzyme that catalyzes the first step in melanin synthesis and is known to play a role in skin pigmentation. 3-(Naphthalen-2-yl)propanoic acid inhibits tyrosinase by binding to its active site, thereby blocking it from catalyzing the conversion of tyrosine to dopaquinone.
