It is an epimer of darunavir and has been shown to be more potent than its parent compound. 1-Epi-darunavir binds to the active site of HIV protease and prevents the formation of a complex between the enzyme and its substrate, leading to inhibition of HIV replication. This drug also inhibits ion channels, including calcium channels, potassium channels, sodium channels, and chloride channels. 1-Epi-darunavir has been shown to inhibit ligand binding to receptors in cell culture, such as peptides or antibodies.
