It is prepared by bromination of 2-methyl-3-(4-methylphenyl) quinazoline and then reacting the bromine with benzoyl peroxide. 2-Methyl-3-(4-methylphenyl)-3,4-dihydroquinazolin-4-one has been shown to be an efficient catalyst for the hydrobromic acid catalyzed conversion of benzoyl chlorides to their corresponding peroxyacids.; 2mMDQQ has been studied for its ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes, as well as Candida albicans yeast cells.
