Beschreibung

Ethylene glycol bis(3-mercaptopropionate) (EGBP) is an organic compound that has been used as a corrosion inhibitor in ethylene glycol. It is also used as an adhesive and a polymerization inhibitor. The reversible adsorption of EGBP on the surface of electron-rich metals such as thorium and electrode reactions have been studied using polarographic techniques. The kinetics of adsorption of EGBP to the metal surface can be described by first-order kinetics, with the rate constant being dependent on the concentration of EGBP and the surface area of metal. The adsorption is irreversible at high concentrations, but becomes reversible at low concentrations. The adsorption process follows Langmuir isotherms for monolayer coverage, with an equilibrium constant that depends on the nature of the metal.
EGBP has also been shown to inhibit dna synthesis by competitively inhibiting rna synthesis in bacteria, causing bacterial death due to
