It is also a catalytic agent for the phthalideisoquinoline skeleton synthesis. 2-Bromo-3,4-dimethoxyphenylmethanol has been shown to be an efficient catalyst in various reactions, including those that produce protoberberine alkaloids and alcohols. 2-Bromo-3,4-dimethoxyphenylmethanol can also be used to reduce sodium borohydride, alcohols, and borohydride with potassium carbonate.
