Produktinformation
Methazathioprine is a drug that is used to treat autoimmune diseases and inflammatory conditions. It belongs to the family of drugs known as thiocarbamates and has been used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus erythematosus, and other autoimmune disorders. Methazathioprine works by interfering with the immune system by preventing antibody production. Methazathioprine binds to the mineralocorticoid receptor, thereby preventing its activation by endogenous mineralocorticoids or glucocorticoids. This results in a reduction of protein synthesis in cells, which may lead to an increase in insulin resistance and chronic kidney disease. Methazathioprine also prevents bacterial infections by inhibiting adsorption of bacteria to host cells and interfering with bacterial DNA replication. This drug is metabolized by acetylsalicylic acid acetyltransferase enzymes in the liver, which converts it into 6-mercaptopurine nucleotides
