Produktinformation
5-(2-bromoethyl)-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane is a purine analogue that inhibits the growth of herpes simplex virus. It does this by inhibiting viral DNA and RNA synthesis. The antiviral effect of 5-(2-bromoethyl)-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane is due to its alkylation of guanine in the nucleotide base sequence. This prevents the binding of adenosine monophosphate to the viral ribonucleotide reductase enzyme, which is required for viral DNA replication.
5-(2-bromoethyl)-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane has been shown to be effective against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) and type 2 (HSV2).
