BEC hydrochloride is a modulator of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) that reduces the formation of DNA fragments. It has been shown to reduce infarction size in rats and to inhibit the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. BEC hydrochloride can be used to prevent neutrophil infiltration in chronic kidney disease. It also inhibits angiogenic factors, such as acetylcholine, ornithine and regulatory proteins, which are involved in cell proliferation and migration. It has been shown to have an effect on animal models for chronic kidney diseases, where it prevents the development of renal infarcts. BEC hydrochloride is also able to inhibit the expression of recombinant proteins, such as human erythropoietin (EPO) and FGF-2, in mammalian cells. This drug has been tested on Indian patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who have moderate hyperglycemia (blood sugar levels over 200 mg
