Beschreibung

Podophyllotoxin is a natural product that was first isolated in the 1950s from the rhizomes of Podophyllum peltatum. It has a wide range of biological properties and has been shown to be effective against prostate cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the growth of these cells by inducing apoptosis. Podophyllotoxin also inhibits energy metabolism and nitrogen metabolism in prostate cancer cells. Preparative high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is used for the separation of podophyllotoxin from other compounds in plant extracts. The molecular weight of podophyllotoxin is about 380 daltons, and it contains an oxygen atom, two hydroxyl groups, and one nitro group.
