Beschreibung

Pinifolic acid is a fatty acid found in the sap of Scots pine. It is an acidic, carboxylate fatty acid that contains 2-pentenoic acid and diterpenes. Pinifolic acid has been shown to inhibit lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) production in tissues samples, as well as to have anti-inflammatory properties. Pinifolic acid also possesses β-caryophyllene and coniferous odors, which may be due to its chemical structure. Pinifolic acid is soluble in organic solvents such as chloroform and ether, but not water. It can be analyzed by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy or gas chromatography/mass spectrometry.
