Beschreibung

Stercobilin is a bacterial enzyme that is activated by fatty acids. It catalyzes the conversion of stercobilin to stercobilin monomethyl ether, which is a potent inhibitor of the electron transport chain in mitochondria. Stercobilin has been shown to interact with other physiological processes, such as the activation of mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation and increased metabolic rate. When used as a biological treatment, stercobilin can reduce the levels of serum bilirubin and redox potential in wastewater. This compound may also be a potential biomarker for HIV infection.
