Ethyl 2-acetamidoprop-2-enoate is a chemical reagent that has been shown to have magnetic properties. It can be used as an analog for ethyl acetoacetate and is used in the synthesis of cis-4-hydroxy-d-proline and cis-4-hydroxy-l-proline. This compound can be prepared by acetylation of 2,2'-diaminodiethylamine with acetic acid, followed by hydrolysis of the acetamide. It can also be synthesized by reacting pyrrole with hydrogen peroxide at temperatures below -10°C, followed by hydrolysis to remove the amide group. Ethyl 2-acetamidoprop-2-enoate can also be synthesized through refluxing ethanol with hydrogen peroxide, followed by distillation and crystallization.
