(3S,10R,13R,17R)-17-[(1R)-1,5-Dimethyl-4-methylene-hexyl]-10,13-dimethyl-2,3,4,9,11,12,14,15,16,17-decahydro-1H-cyclopenta[A]phenant hren-3-ol is a drug that inhibits polymerase chain reactions and has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the transcriptional regulation of human genes. The terminal half life of this drug is about 2 hours in humans. This drug also has been shown to affect mitochondrial superoxide production in cell culture and to reduce population growth of protozoan parasites such as Leishmania. In addition to its antimycotic activity against fungi and yeast cells in cell culture studies at high concentrations (i.e., >250 microM), this drug has been found to be effective against high cholesterol levels in humans
