This inhibition may be due to its ability to bind to muscle tissue and act as a matrix effect enhancer, which leads to increased ATP production in muscle cells. Fluoxetine-d5 hydrochloride has also been shown to inhibit acetaminophen metabolism by blocking the activity of cytochrome P450 enzymes.
