Beta-rotunol is a fatty acid that belongs to the class of hinesols. It inhibits cancer cell growth by targeting the IL-10 pathway and inhibiting the production of cyclooxygenase-2. Beta-rotunol has demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties in vitro, with an IC50 value of 3.1 ± 0.4 μM for lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulated human monocyte-derived macrophages. Beta-rotunol also inhibits squamous cell carcinoma cells in a dose dependent manner with an IC50 of 11 ± 2 μM and inhibits rhizome inflammation in human lung cell lines in vitro.
