Applications Propyl Gallate is a known inhibitor of Tyrosinase, a polyphenol oxidase, which is an important enzyme in pigment biosynthesis in various organisms. It has also recently been seen to boost biodiesel lipid biosynthesis in cultures.

Propyl gallate is a gallic acid ester that can be used in wastewater treatment and as an analytical method. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of a number of receptor proteins, including the hl-60 cell line. Propyl gallate inhibits the metabolism of glucose by inhibiting enzymes involved in glycolysis, leading to toxicity studies for infectious diseases. This compound also inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species and prevents apoptosis by blocking the MCL-1 protein, which induces cellular death. Long-term toxicity studies have found that propyl gallate has no adverse effects on animal development or reproduction.
