Applications Itaconic acid is an unsaturated dicarbonic acid that is used as a comonomer in resins, synthetic fibers, and rubbers. Itaconic acid is naturally biosynthesized by Aspergillus terreus, but is also synthesized in a macroscale basis from sugars.
