3,7-Dihydro-1-(5S-hydroxyhexyl)-3,7-dimethyl-1H-purine-2,6-dione is a chiral compound that can be used as a precursor for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. It can be obtained by reacting vinyl acetate with an enantiomerically pure form of 3,7-dihydro-1-(5R)-hydroxyhexyl)-3,7-dimethyl-1H purine 2,6(3H) dione. This reaction is catalyzed by immobilized lipase and the yield depends on the parameters used. The single crystal x ray diffraction technique has been used to investigate the structure of this compound.
