Descripción:
La sustancia química conocida como Benceno, 1,1'-metilenobis[4-isocianato-, comúnmente referida como MDI (Diisocianato de Metileno Difenílico), es un isocianato aromático utilizado principalmente en la producción de espumas y recubrimientos de poliuretano. Se caracteriza por su alta reactividad debido a la presencia de grupos funcionales isocianato, que reaccionan fácilmente con compuestos que contienen átomos de hidrógeno activos, como alcoholes y aminas. El MDI es típicamente un líquido viscoso o sólido a temperatura ambiente, con un olor aromático distintivo. Es insoluble en agua pero soluble en disolventes orgánicos como acetona y tolueno. El MDI es conocido por su excelente estabilidad térmica y propiedades mecánicas, lo que lo hace adecuado para diversas aplicaciones industriales, incluidos materiales de aislamiento y elastómeros. It can be found in polyurethane foam insulation and in the production of diphenyl and diisocyanate. MDI has been shown to cause asthma, skin inflammation, and other respiratory problems. MDI is highly toxic to aquatic life and can cause long term effects on fish populations. The toxicity of MDI depends on the concentration and duration of exposure, as well as the species that it is administered to. High concentration exposure for a short period of time will result in death by respiratory failure or cardiac arrest.
