Acetaldehyde diethylacetal is a matrix effect inhibitor, which means it inhibits reactions that are dependent on the presence of a solvent. Acetaldehyde diethylacetal can be used to inhibit chelerythrine-mediated reactions, such as those involving epidermal growth factor (EGF). This compound reacts with the hydroxyl group of EGF to form an acetal derivative, which cannot react with the substrate because its reactive site has been blocked by a protective acetal group.
