Ácido (±)-lipoico, también conocido como ácido tióctico, es un compuesto que se encuentra de forma natural y juega un papel crucial en la bioenergética mitocondrial y actúa como cofactor para varios complejos enzimáticos involucrados en el metabolismo energético. Es un compuesto ditiol, que presenta dos grupos tiol que pueden sufrir oxidación y reducción, lo que le permite funcionar como un potente antioxidante.
