It is used in the synthesis of glycol ethers and as a reagent in organic synthesis. BFE has been shown to inhibit the activity of dpp-iv, an enzyme that regulates T-cell apoptosis. BFE also inhibits the mcl-1 protein, which is involved in mitochondrial function and programmed cell death. This inhibition leads to inhibition of proliferation and activation of apoptosis in cancer cells.
