2-Phenoxy-1-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)ethan-1-one is a novel compound that has been shown to inhibit the replication of viruses. It binds to the virus's RNA polymerase and prevents translation. 2-Phenoxy-1-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)ethan-1-one can be used as a diagnostic tool for infectious diseases, such as bacterial vaginosis. This drug has also been shown to have antiinflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit cjun N terminal kinase (JNK). The compound is metabolized in mammalian cells by cytochrome P450 enzymes. It has also been shown to cause body fat mass loss in humans and mice with metabolic disorders.
