1,4-Bis(4-vinylphenoxy)butane is a polymer that has been used as a viscosity probe. 1,4-Bis(4-vinylphenoxy)butane has been shown to have a low fluorescence in the matrix of polystyrene and crosslinked polystyrene. The microenvironment of the polymer can be studied by using resonance spectroscopy techniques such as IR and NMR. Analytical methods such as gas chromatography and liquid chromatography can be used to measure the molecular weight. 1,4-Bis(4-vinylphenoxy)butane has been found to have good analytical properties for the detection of benzene.
