This compound is a macrocyclic indole derivative and has been shown to be effective in the treatment of inflammatory conditions such as Crohn's disease. 7-(1,3-Dioxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-isoindol-2-yl)heptanoic acid inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase II (COXII), which reduces inflammation by blocking the production of prostaglandins.
