Fosfato de etopósido es un profármaco de etopósido, utilizado principalmente en el tratamiento del cáncer, particularmente para el cáncer testicular y el cáncer de pulmón de células pequeñas. Es un derivado de la familia de la podofilotoxina y actúa como un inhibidor de la topoisomerasa II, interrumpiendo la replicación y transcripción del ADN, lo que finalmente conduce a la muerte celular. Fosfato de etopósido se caracteriza por su grupo éster fosfato, que mejora su solubilidad y biodisponibilidad en comparación con su compuesto padre, etopósido. Tras la administración, se convierte rápidamente en etopósido en el cuerpo, permitiendo una acción terapéutica efectiva.
