Descripción:
Óxido de trimetilamina (TMAO) es un compuesto orgánico con la fórmula molecular C3H9NO y se caracteriza por su estructura de amonio cuaternario. Aparece como un sólido cristalino incoloro o un líquido viscoso, dependiendo de su forma y pureza. El TMAO es altamente soluble en agua y solventes polares debido a su naturaleza polar, que surge de la presencia del grupo funcional óxido de amina. Se encuentra comúnmente en organismos marinos, donde juega un papel en la osmorregulación y estabilización de proteínas bajo condiciones de alta presión. El TMAO también es de interés en bioquímica y nutrición, ya que se ha relacionado con varios procesos metabólicos e implicaciones para la salud, particularmente en relación con la salud cardiovascular.     CAS:
    Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) is a trimethylamine derivative that is produced by the oxidation of trimethylamine. TMAO has been shown to be released during digestion and can be detected in plasma and urine. The presence of TMAO in atherosclerotic lesions may have pathological implications, as it has been shown to inhibit the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for DNA polymerase beta. TMAO has also been associated with bowel disease, as it has been shown to induce an immune response in patients with ulcerative colitis. Furthermore, TMAO inhibits the synthesis of proteins by blocking ribosomal RNA transcription and translation.
