Cloruro de amonio (NH4Cl) es un compuesto inorgánico caracterizado por su apariencia cristalina blanca y alta solubilidad en agua. Es una sal formada a partir de la reacción de amoníaco y ácido clorhídrico. Cloruro de amonio tiene un sabor ligeramente salado y es higroscópico, lo que significa que puede absorber humedad del aire. Se utiliza comúnmente en diversas aplicaciones, incluyendo como aditivo alimentario, en fertilizantes y en la producción de baterías y productos farmacéuticos. El compuesto presenta un punto de fusión alrededor de 340°C y se descompone al calentarse, liberando gas amoníaco. En solución, se disocia en iones de amonio (NH4+) y cloruro (Cl-), contribuyendo a su papel como electrolito. Cloruro de amonio también se utiliza en las industrias textil y de tintes, así como en la metalurgia para la fusión. Aunque generalmente se considera seguro en cantidades moderadas, la exposición a altas concentraciones puede provocar irritación respiratoria.
