It has been shown to have antiviral and anticancer activities, as well as the ability to inhibit DNA synthesis. The synthetic route to this compound begins with the synthesis of N6-(benzoyl)-2'-O-(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)-3'-O-(dimethoxytrityl)adenosine, which is then converted to the final product by removal of the silyl protecting group and oxidation.
