BC2059 is a cytosolic calcium ionophore that binds to the extracellular domain of the survivin protein, which regulates cellular proliferation and differentiation. BC2059 has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of bone cancer cells in vitro. It also inhibits the proliferation of metastatic colorectal cancer cells by binding to cyclin D2. The drug is not toxic to normal cells with low expression of survivin or cyclin D2, and it can be used for treatment in conjunction with surgery or chemotherapy for solid tumours.
