α-Ketoglutaric acid (α-KGA) is a natural metabolite of glucose and is an intermediate in the citric acid cycle. α-KGA has been shown to have powerful anti-cancer properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit glucose uptake and metabolism in tumor cells. α-KGA has also been shown to reduce locomotor activity, which may be due to its ability to induce transcriptional regulation of genes that are involved in glucose regulation.
