It has antioxidative properties and can protect against oxidative injury. 5-Chloro-7-iodo-8-hydroxyquinoline was found to be toxic in various animal models, including the neuronal death and mitochondrial membrane potential. This toxicity may be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of DNA polymerase and protein synthesis.
