Descripción:
Óxido de magnesio (MgO) es un compuesto inorgánico caracterizado por su apariencia blanca y en polvo y su alto punto de fusión. Se forma por la reacción del magnesio con el oxígeno y se encuentra comúnmente en la naturaleza como el mineral periclasa. Óxido de magnesio es conocido por su excelente estabilidad térmica y es un buen aislante eléctrico. Tiene un alto punto de fusión, lo que lo hace adecuado para aplicaciones a altas temperaturas, como materiales refractarios en hornos. Químicamente, es un óxido básico y reacciona con ácidos para formar sales de magnesio. En términos de solubilidad, el MgO es poco soluble en agua, pero puede reaccionar con ácidos para producir sales de magnesio solubles. Sus aplicaciones son diversas, que van desde su uso en materiales de construcción, agricultura como acondicionador del suelo, hasta su papel en la producción de metal de magnesio. Además, Óxido de magnesio se utiliza en la industria farmacéutica por sus propiedades antiácidas y como suplemento dietético de magnesio. En general, sus propiedades únicas lo convierten en un compuesto valioso en diversas aplicaciones industriales y relacionadas con la salud.
