2,2-Dimethyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-quinolin-4-one is a cytotoxic agent that has been shown to have anti-cancer effects. It is synthesised from chalcone by cyclisation and coupling reactions. This drug inhibits the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo by inducing cell cycle arrest at the G1 phase. 2,2-Dimethyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-quinolin-4-one also induces apoptosis in cancer cells through the activation of caspases 3 and 8. 2,2-Dimethyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-quinolin-4 -one has been evaluated as a potential chemotherapeutic agent for treatment of cancer with promising results in animal models.
