It is used in the treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome and thalassemia major. Dideoxyrhamnojirimycin inhibits DNA synthesis by blocking the incorporation of deoxyribonucleotides into DNA, which prevents cell division and stops the spread of cancer cells. Dideoxyrhamnojirimycin also has anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.</p>
