It is used as an electrolyte in electrochemical cells, such as fuel cells, to increase power output by increasing the conductivity of the electrolyte. Potassium vinyltrifluoroborate also has anti-cancer properties due to its ability to inhibit cellular proliferation and induce apoptosis in cancer cells. The mechanism of action of this drug is still unclear but may be due to its ability to inhibit proteases, such as ns3 protease found in human erythrocytes.
