2-Hydroxy-N-((3S)-4-methylene-5-oxo-tetrahydrofuran-3-yl)benzamide is an inhibitor of the serine protease thrombin. It has a high affinity for the active site of the enzyme and blocks access to substrate, thereby inhibiting its activity. 2HMB is a useful tool for studying protein interactions, activator and ligand binding to receptors and ion channels, as well as for generating antibodies in research.
2HMB can be synthesized by reacting 3-(4'-methylene-5'-hydroxypentanoyloxy)benzoic acid with 2-(chloromethyl)-1,1,1,3,3,3 hexafluoropropane in the presence of triethylamine or potassium carbonate in dimethylformamide.
