Cerivastatina es un agente sintético reductor de lípidos que pertenece a la clase de las estatinas, utilizado principalmente para manejar la hiperlipidemia y reducir el riesgo de enfermedades cardiovasculares. Funciona inhibiendo la enzima HMG-CoA reductasa, que desempeña un papel crucial en la biosíntesis de colesterol en el hígado. Esta inhibición conduce a niveles disminuidos de colesterol en el torrente sanguíneo y promueve la captación de colesterol de lipoproteínas de baja densidad (LDL) por el hígado. Cerivastatina se caracteriza por su potente eficacia en la reducción del colesterol LDL y los triglicéridos, mientras que potencialmente eleva los niveles de colesterol de lipoproteínas de alta densidad (HDL). An inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase that reduces total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL). Cerivastatin is cardioprotective and anti-atherosclerotic. Cerivastatin inhibits the expression of the atherosclerotic genes monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) and C-C chemokine receptor type 2 (CCR2), whilst inducing the expression of Kruppel-like factor 2 (KLF2).
