1-[4-(4-Chlorophenyl)piperazin-1-yl]ethan-1-one (1CPE) is a small molecule that has been shown to inhibit the replication of viruses such as HIV, influenza, and herpes simplex virus. 1CPE inhibits protein glycosylation in cancer cells, preventing the formation of new proteins that are necessary for cell proliferation. It also inhibits inflammatory bowel disease by reducing inflammation and hyperproliferation of cells. The drug has been shown to have a beneficial effect on bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. 1CPE also has anti-inflammatory properties which are due to its inhibition of serine protease activity.
