CAS:Azomethine is a class of phenylthiourea compounds that are polycondensates. Azomethine has a viscosity of 1.5 centipoise, which is lower than the viscosity of polyaniline and poly(4-vinylpyridine). The conductance of azomethine is 150 microS. Azomethine has been shown to polymerize with chloride ion and diacid to form polychlorazomethine (PCM), which is a conducting polymer with a conductance of 1.2 mS. PCM can be used in the preparation of electrodes for electrochemical applications such as fuel cells. Polycondensation reactions involving azomethines are often used to synthesize polymers such as polyanilines and terephthaloyl-based polymers, which have been studied extensively for their potential use in biomedical devices such as drug delivery systems and biosensors.
