Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) showed that 2-mercaptobenzothiazole zinc salt was able to inhibit bacterial growth by reducing the transfer of electrons to bacteria. This means that 2-mercaptobenzothiazole zinc salt can reduce the synthesis of fatty acids in bacteria, which are necessary for maintaining cell membranes.
