It has been shown to cause regression of angiogenic factors and statistically significant improvement in migraine headache frequency, severity, and duration when taken within 24 hours of onset of a migraine. Almotriptan malate can be administered by nasal spray or oral tablets. The recommended dose for adults is 25-50 mg (1-2 tablets) taken at the first sign of a headache. Almotriptan malate should not be given to people who have liver impairment or are taking sodium carbonate. Side effects may include nasal congestion, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Almotriptan malate should be used with caution in patients with hypertension.
