α-Solanina es un glicoalcaloide que se encuentra principalmente en especies de la familia de las solanáceas, particularmente en patatas y tomates. Es un compuesto tóxico que puede causar síntomas gastrointestinales y neurológicos cuando se ingiere en cantidades significativas. Estructuralmente, α-Solanina consiste en un esqueleto de alcaloide esteroidal con un grupo de azúcar, específicamente un núcleo de solanidina vinculado a un componente de carbohidrato. CAS:<p>α-Solanine is a steroidal glycoalkaloid found in species of the nightshade family (Solanaceae), such as the potato (Solanum tuberosum). It can occur in any part of the plant, including the leaves, fruit, and tubers. It is very toxic even in small quantities and it is one of the plant's natural defenses. Solanine was first isolated in 1820 by Desfosses from the berries of the European black nightshade (Solanum nigrum), after which it was named. Solanine has fungicidal and pesticidal properties, and solanine hydrochloride has been used as a commercial pesticide, but never on a large scale.
